Begin your journey with Empowered Learning Management

Getting started as an educational therapy client

  1. The parent completes a client interest form. I will reach out to you with learning plan options and cost estimates. From there, we can schedule your free parent consultation. I will also send you the parent intake forms.

  2. Next, we’ll meet for your complementary parent consultation. I will also ask you to send relevant records and assessment reports to help me understand your child’s needs and academic history.

  3. After that, I will meet with the student for an initial consultation and interview. I will also ask the student to fill out some intake forms.

  4. From there, the student and I will work through the collaborative self-assessment process. I’ve developed a self-assessment process which will empower the student to reflect on their learning, their support needs, and their goals.

  5. We will then create an initial draft of an educational support plan, which we will dynamically adapt and evolve over time.

Frequently asked questions

How often do you usually meet with students?

For educational therapy, I often see the best results with students when we work twice a week together. Over time, we may switch to once a week as the student builds more skills for independence. However, some clients prefer to start slow with meetings once per week, and that’s perfectly fine as well.

How often do you communicate with parents?

Communicating with parents on an ongoing basis is a top priority for me. I dedicate time after each session to record notes regarding the student’s progress, reported challenges, and strategies that we practiced together. It is important for me to record detailed notes to support the student’s self-reflection, as well as create a detailed record of the student’s progress and response to intervention. This can be very helpful in order for the student and family to advocate for the student in school settings, and to determine appropriate support strategies in the future. In addition to communication via shared notes, I also plan to meet with parents to check in on a periodic basis.

Do you work with students of all ages?

I primarily work with students in high school, college, and graduate school. My education and experience best align with the needs of adolescents and adults. However, parents will students in middle school are also more than welcome to reach out to me, and I will provide an honest assessment of whether I am the right fit for their unique child’s needs.

Do you exclusviely work with students with diagnosed disabilities?

Nope! I am open to working with any student, as long as I believe that they can benefit from my support and services. Further, I understand that obtaining a disability diagnosis can be a long and challenging road—Just because a student isn’t (yet) diagnosed with a disability, doesn’t mean they don’t have one.

I notice you mention parents a lot. I am an adult student and I’d like to hire you myself— Do you ever work with adult clients without parent involvement?

Yes, absolutely.
